Our clients understand it is difficult to obtain a mortgage if you are no longer resident or working in the UK. There are specific criteria to qualify for an expat mortgage including your income and occupation, who you work for, your country of residence, the date you left the UK and your plans to return, to name a few. Clients making contact with us in similar situations, typically tell us of their frustration at the current restrictions on finance for UK expats. They usually have an appropriate income to support the mortgage and have a healthy deposit for a purchase or significant equity in a current UK home to undertake a remortgage. They do not understand why the vast majority of lenders will not consider their ties here in the UK or their individual circumstances. They appreciate that issues around country of origin, country of residence, domicile and taxation regions can be a detailed and complex area when it comes to obtaining mortgage finance.

In order to qualify and for us to assist, earned income abroad or here in the UK must be sufficient and be derived from either employment or self employment. Typically, we will ensure you meet the mortgage lenders criteria and our provisional assessment will be based on the affordability of your mortgage payments and your wishes to return to the UK. We will take your instructions on whether this is to be temporarily or permanently and in the short and long term.
