British Rates

British Rates - British rates refer to the various interest rate structures on mortgages available in Britain. British mortgage lenders have fixed, tracker, capped and standard variable rate packages.

Fixed mortgage rates are fixed at a certain interest rate for a specified period of time. Such packages offer borrowers peace of mind as they know exactly what mortgage payments will in that period regardless of changing market conditions.

Tracker rate mortgages, on the other hand, follow the Banks of England’s base rate meaning that there is a tendency for mortgage payments to fluctuate. However, these mortgages can be particularly advantageous when interest rates decline as monthly mortgage payments will also fall.

Capped rate mortgage packages are mortgages with a maximum capped interest rate. As such, if the variable rate goes higher than your agreed capped rate borrowers will have to pay no more than the agreed capped rate.

At the end of a fixed, tracker or capped rate deal, borrowers normally revert to a lenders often higher Standard Variable Rate (SVR) which is determined entirely at each Lender's discretion.

Clearly, different rate structures can have varying effects on ones situation and finances. Our advisers at Capital Fortune will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of all British rates and further assist you in obtaining a suitable package.
